Judge orders Justin Baldoni to cover Blake Lively's legal fees

A New York federal judge has ruled that Justin Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, must pay his former It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively's attorneys' fees, after the parties reached a settlement last month in Lively's lawsuit against the actor and production studio.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman denied Lively's claim for punitive damages but wrote that the actress was entitled to attorneys' fees under California Civil Code Section 47.1.

Section 47.1 states in part that a "prevailing defendant" in a defamation case is "entitled to their reasonable attorney's fees and costs for successfully defending themselves in the litigation," as well as any additional damages permitted by a judge.

In a statement to ABC News following the ruling, Lively's attorneys Esra Hudson and Michael Gottlieb said the judge's decision "makes it clear that Ms. Lively brought her claims in good faith, that there was no evidence she acted with malice, and that she is the prevailing defendant under Section 47.1."

"Ms. Lively is gratified that her lawsuit shows how Section 47.1 and laws like it create a path for survivors to hold accountable those who weaponize online attacks and retaliatory lawsuits to intimidate and silence survivors," they added.

ABC News has reached out to representatives for Baldoni for comment.

Friday's decision comes after the parties reached a settlement in early May in Lively's lawsuit against Baldoni, ending their nearly year-and-a-half legal dispute.

According to settlement documents filed May 7 in the Southern District of New York, Baldoni, via his Wayfarer production company, and Lively agreed to settle their ongoing dispute on terms that Lively could still seek to recover attorney's fees and additional damages.

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Lively and Baldoni's legal battle kicked off in December 2024, when Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department alleging "severe emotional distress" after she said Baldoni and key stakeholders in the film — which Baldoni also directed — sexually harassed her and attempted, along with Baldoni's production company, to orchestrate a smear campaign against her.

Baldoni followed up the action by filing a lawsuit against the New York Times for libel and false light invasion of privacy on Dec. 31 after it published the article about Lively's California complaint.

Lively subsequently formalized her complaint into a lawsuit against Baldoni in New York, also on Dec. 31.

Baldoni responded by filing a civil lawsuit against Lively, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and others for, among other things, extortion and defamation.

The suits were consolidated into one lawsuit in January 2025.

In June last year, Baldoni's $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and the couple's publicist Leslie Sloane, as well as Baldoni's defamation suit against the Times, was dismissed by Liman.

A federal judge in New York gutted much of Lively's case against Baldoni in April of this year, including claims she was subjected to sexual harassment on set.

The judge determined in a ruling at the time that Lively would be allowed to pursue certain claims of retaliation against Baldoni's public relations team over alleged harm to her reputation.

In May, after reaching a settlement in their protracted legal dispute, the two actors issued a joint statement via their respective legal teams, saying, "We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online."

The FX comedy series Adults is dropping a surprise prequel episode.

The show screened the episode, titled “Marathon Day,” to a sold-out crowd at the Tribeca Festival Thursday night. It focuses on the origin story of Jack Innanen’s character Paul Baker.

“We’re so excited for the opportunity to show fans how this friend group came to be,” said series creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, who also wrote the episode. “We love a good origin story, and we can’t wait for you to see where the radioactive spider bit Paul Baker.”

The episode will be available to watch on July 31 on FX and Hulu at 1 p.m ET/10 a.m. PT.

Adults, about a group of twenty-somethings living in New York, debuts its second season on Aug. 27.

Meanwhile, Innanen revealed on the Tribeca red carpet that he turned down a role on the highly anticipated second season of Heated Rivalry. He was rumored to be in the running for the characters of either Troy Barrett or Wyatt Hayes.

While he didn’t say which role he was offered, the Canadian actor told CBS Mornings, “I think it’s such an incredible show, and it didn’t work out. But I love Jacob [Tierney], I love everyone involved. I’m just, I’m excited to see what they do for the second season.”

Mekai Curtis says he's 'extremely blessed' to have spent five seasons on 'Raising Kanan'

Poster for season 5 of 'Raising Kanan' (Starz)

Power Book III: Raising Kanan begins its countdown to the end on Friday, when the first episode of its fifth and final season premieres on Starz. For Mekai Curtis, the final season marks the culmination of his journey bringing his title character, Kanan Stark, to life on screen.

"I'm extremely blessed that I got to take a character [through] five seasons, that I get to tell this story and represent so many different walks of life, and then so many different understandings and viewpoints and approaches to life," Mekai tells ABC Audio. "This is something that every actor dreams of, is to have a role that has not just layers on screen, but off the screen as well."

Over the years Mekai has helped audiences understand the origin story of Kanan, a character first introduced as an adult in the original Power, where he was portrayed by 50 Cent. However, Mekai avoided studying 50's performance so he could deliver his own interpretation of the character.

"I kind of wanted to keep things organic, but I also didn't want to rigidly start moving toward what that character is," he says. "I wanted every scene, every reaction to be something that was new to Mekai and also new to Kanan."

As the series reaches its end, Mekai says there isn't a single moment that transforms Kanan into the man viewers met in Power. Instead, he says fans see his evolution throughout the entire show.

"I think that was the story of why Raising Kanan is a thing, is we all as people have events that we can remember that shaped how we present or move ourselves throughout the world, but it's a culmination of all of those things ... that make you who you are."

Paul Anthony Kelly to join Sydney Sweeney in 'The Housemaid's Secret'

Paul Anthony Kelly is making the leap from romantic drama to psychological thriller.

The actor, known for playing John F. Kennedy Jr. in the hit FX series Love Story, will star in The Housemaid's Secret, Lionsgate announced Thursday.

The upcoming film is a sequel to The Housemaid, which was released in 2025.

Kelly will star as Douglas in the sequel alongside Sydney Sweeney, who reprises her role as Millie. Michele Morrone, who also starred in The Housemaid, will reprise his role as Enzo, according to Lionsgate.

Kirsten Dunst will also star in the film, with Paul Feig returning to direct the project.

According to a synopsis from Lionsgate, The Housemaid's Secret will see Millie "taking a job keeping house for a woman she's never allowed to see — only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own."

The Housemaid and The Housemaid's Secret are based on the New York Times bestselling novels of the same name by Freida McFadden.

McFadden's most recent Housemaid novel, The Housemaid Is Watching, was published in June 2024.

Lionsgate added in a press release that while The Housemaid's Secret enters production later this year, "the studio anticipates adapting even more of McFadden's beloved thrillers from the world of The Housemaid in the years ahead."

Kelly was also recently announced as the newest cast member for the 13th installment of American Horror Story, premiering later this fall on FX and Hulu.

The Housemaid's Secret will be released on Dec. 17, 2027.

The Off Campus team is calling out fans’ unsportsmanlike behavior.

Prime Video’s popular college hockey romance series posted a message to social media Thursday imploring fans to be kind.

“The Off Campus community is built on a shared love of storytelling – and on respect for the real people who bring it to life,” read the message. “We ask that everyone in this space extend that respect to our cast and the people in their lives.”

It added, “Accounts that engage in targeted harassment will be removed from following our accounts.”

Prime Video had to issue similar notices for The Summer I Turned Pretty after some comments turned toxic. "PSA for the Summer community," the show's official social accounts shared last year before the third and final season aired. "Cousins is our safe place. Everything good, everything magical. Let's keep the conversation kind this summer."

More recently, the streaming service issued a plea to fans to stop sharing locations and visiting the set for the upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty movie.

Let’s hear it for women in STEM.

The Love Hypothesis, based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling romance novel, officially has a release date. The film comes to Prime Video on Sept. 23.

Star Lili Reinhart helped announce the news in a video posted to social media Thursday. We see a barista deliver a whipped cream-topped drink with 9.23 written on it to Reinhart’s character, Olive.

“Oh that’s me,” Reinhart says as she grabs the drink and takes a sip. “Could I actually get sprinkles on this?”

“Just a little something brewing,” Prime Video captioned the video. “The Love Hypothesis arrives September 23.”

The story follows a fake dating scheme between Olive Smith, a PhD candidate, and a surly biology professor, Adam Carlsen, played by Tom Bateman. Matters get complicated when their fake dating starts to give way to real feelings.

A third installment in the 21 Jump Street movie franchise is a go.

Producer Neal H. Moritz revealed the news in an Instagram post, with a photo of the script for 24 Jump Street. “It took so long to make we had to skip one,” the script’s cover page reads.

21 Jump Street, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, was released in 2012, followed by its sequel, 22 Jump Street, in 2014.

As the photo of the script reveals, Hill co-wrote 24 Jump Street along with Rodney Rothman and Meghan Malloy.

"A picture says a thousand words!" Moritz captioned the photo.

Variety reports Hill, Tatum and Ice Cube are in talks to return as stars of the new film.

The first Jump Street film, a reboot of the 1980s TV series starring Johnny Depp, saw Hill and Tatum playing cops who go undercover at a high school. The sequel had them graduating to an undercover mission at a college.

Ginger Minj, Jujubee say 'Stop! That! Train!' is a queer comedy for everybody

Ginger Minj and Jujubee star as Tess and DeeDee in 'Stop! That! Train!' (World of Wonder/Bleeker Street)

All aboard the Glamazonian Express.

Drag queens Ginger Minj and Jujubee star in the new comedy Stop! That! Train! The film, which arrives in theaters Friday, follows two train stewardesses who begin working for a glamorous high-speed train right as a catastrophic storm threatens to derail it.

Jujubee told ABC Audio it was always a dream of hers to be in a movie.

"I'm so grateful that our fabulous, talented, handsome director Adam Shankman chose me to play Deedee. I think it was my adult teeth that I was born with. Is that the reason?" Jujubee said. "We showed up and we worked our butt pads off. Everybody that was on that set was so happy to work ... we wanted to create art for queer people, but everybody else as well."

As for what it's like to be atop the call sheet, Jujubee said, "It feels right."

Ginger Minj, who stars as Tess, said that while films like To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert feature drag queens as characters, this movie takes it a step further.

"I love those movies. They did a lot for queer culture and for drag acceptance. But this is like, for drag by drag," Ginger Minj said. "We're actual drag queens who live in these heels every single day. So I think that informs the performance a little bit differently."

The film is a comedy, but Shankman told Ginger Minj and Jujubee on their first day on set to play it as if it were a drama.

"I think that that grounds the entire film. All of the outrageousness that happens, it hits a lot harder because we do approach it from such a real place," Ginger Minj says.

'Every Year After' starring Sadie Soverall, Matt Cornett is this summer's love story

Sadie Soverall as Percy Fraser, Matt Cornett as Sam Florek in 'Every Year After.' (Cate Cameron/Prime Video)

Less than a year after the beloved Prime Video series The Summer I Turned Pretty wrapped, a new series is stepping in to deliver all the swoonworthy summer romance audiences have been yearning for.

Prime Video released all eight episodes of the series Every Year After on Wednesday, starring Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett. The streaming platform has described the new show as "the love story of the summer."

The series follows Percy (Soverall) and Sam (Cornett), childhood best friends who fall in love over the course of six summers at Barry's Bay, an idyllic lakeside town.

Ten years after their heartbreaking split, they are reunited when Percy returns to Barry's Bay to attend the funeral of Sam's mother.

"It's a story that's told over quite an incredible span of time," Soverall told ABC News in an interview. "It follows them from the age of 13 to their mid-to-late 20s."

Cornett added, "You get to see them grow together and then see their hardships that caused them to separate. And you see them come back together to try and regrow together."

The series already has a loyal fanbase thanks to Carley Fortune's New York Times bestselling novel Every Summer After, on which the show is based.

Going into the series, Cornett said that he wasn't familiar with Fortune's novel, but when he found out he booked the role of Sam, he said he went to the bookstore and saw the book displayed on one of the first tables in the shop.

"I was like, 'OK, I guess this is a little bit bigger of a deal than I think it is,'" he recalled, adding that he was "blown away by it."

"Carley's writing is spectacular," Cornett said. "And I remember reading the book and crying a lot, so the idea of getting to bring that to life was fun."

Soverall added that she wanted to do the story justice knowing how beloved the characters are.

"I think that we're both such big fans, so we get how important it is for these characters to be represented in a way that you want to see them as a fan," she said.

The new series also stars Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen, Michael Bradway, Joseph Chiu and Elisha Cuthbert.

Laurie takes on the role of Control, Smiley’s morally gray superior at The Circus known only by his codename, while Alwyn joins as Jim Prideaux, a charismatic agent who tends to go rogue in the field.

When Taylor Swift revealed that she'd written a song for Toy Story 5, she noted that she'd been "a Toy Story kid from the age of 5 til now." And she proved it by showing up to the movie's premiere on Tuesday night with her original VHS tape of Toy Story under her arm.

But she wasn't just carrying it around to prove her fandom; she asked Toy Story star Tom Hanks to autograph it for her. He did, as he told USA Today, and then laughed, "I told her she should have brought in the VHS machine so that we could have signed it, 'cause that could go into the Smithsonian Institute as well."

Separately, Tom told Variety that he had no idea Taylor had a song in the movie until the last moment, when, he said, "They ushered us into a soundproof room and said, 'Tonight, at 9 p.m., the true end titles song is going to drop and it's by Taylor Swift.'"

"And I said, 'You guys kept this from us all this time?' We saw the movie and it did not — we had some dummy [song] in there, so they surprised us as well."

He added, "That's like saying, 'By the way, Judy Garland is singing "Over the Rainbow" at the beginning of this' — that kind of thing."

And while speaking to E! at the premiere, Tom offered the following marriage advice to Taylor and her fiancé, Travis Kelce: "The man must make the waffles on Sunday."

Toy Story 5 arrives June 19.

X-Men actor Tyler Mane has revealed that he has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mane, best known for playing Sabretooth in X-Men as well as in Deadpool & Wolverine, shared his diagnosis Tuesday in a video on social media.

"I have some bad news. I start chemotherapy today," Mane said, adding in the video's caption that he was diagnosed with breast cancer, calling it "super rare."

Mane did not share further details about his diagnosis or treatment.

ABC News has reached out to the actor for comment.

In his post, Mane said he hopes to raise awareness about breast cancer in men, saying that he "wants to change" the reality that the condition is "rarely talked about."

In the United States, around one out of every 100 breast cancer diagnoses is found in a man, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Like a woman, a man's risk of breast cancer is increased if they have either the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes.

Other risk factors for breast cancer in men include being over the age of 50, a family history of breast cancer, obesity, exposure to hormone and radiation therapy treatments, liver disease and certain conditions that affect the testicles, according to the CDC.

There are currently no screening recommendations for breast cancer screening in men.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that women between ages 40 and 74 who are at average risk for breast cancer get a mammogram every two years.

The symptoms of breast cancer in men include abnormalities around the breast area, including a lump or swelling, redness or flaky skin, nipple discharge and pain in the nipple area, according to the CDC.

First, KPop Demon Hunters will return to theaters across the U.S. and the world for anniversary screenings. Check your local listings for a theater near you. Additionally, there will be free outdoor screenings of the sing-along versions of the Oscar-winning film across the U.S. starting June 19 in Salt Lake City. That will be followed by free screenings in Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego and Brooklyn on June 20; Butte, Montana, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 24; and Cleveland, Ohio, on June 25. A different location in San Diego will host an additional screening on June 26. Visit Tudum.com for full details.

Both Netflix houses — one in Philadelphia and one in Dallas — will offer a full day of fan activities on June 20. There will be screenings all week at the Philly house.

KPop Demon Hunters became the most-watched original title in Netflix history. The film also won the best animated feature film Oscar. The voices of HUNTR/X — EJAE, Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna — have become stars in their own right, performing on TV and at live events, and a KPop Demon Hunters World Tour is coming.

Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White take on Facebook in 'The Social Reckoning' trailer

Facebook is facing the music in the new trailer for The Social Reckoning.

The companion film to 2010’s The Social Network will tell the true story of young Facebook engineer Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison, who enlists the help of Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White, to blow the whistle on Facebook’s questionable practices.

Their work ultimately culminated in a 2021 exposé known as The Facebook Files, which exposed the inner workings and harms caused by Facebook.

In the clip, we see the two going up against the social network giant, headed by Jeremy Strong’s Mark Zuckerberg.

“I’m a free speech absolutist and I’m not the one who’s lying,” Strong as Zuckerberg says as he’s accused of injecting a “fire hose of bad information” into society.

The film was written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who previously wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for The Social Network. It also stars Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr.

The Social Reckoning hits theaters Oct. 9.
